Addition of three digit numbers with carrying easy Math quiz
Teaching kids addition of three numbers with carrying
Addition is one of the basic mathematical operations, and it is essential for kids to understand how to add numbers correctly in order to be successful in math. Adding three-digit numbers can be a bit trickier than adding smaller numbers, but with a little practice and the right approach, it can be easy and fun!
The first step in adding three-digit numbers is to line up the numbers so that the ones, tens, and hundreds place are lined up. The ones place is the rightmost digit of a number, the tens place is the middle digit, and the hundreds place is the leftmost digit.
Next, we will add the ones place first. Just like adding single digit numbers, you add the ones place of the first number to the ones place of the second number. If the result is a two-digit number, you write down the ones digit and carry over the tens digit to the tens place.
For example: 738 + 526 = 1264
In the above example, we have 8 + 6 = 14, so we write down 4 and carry 1 over to the tens place.
Next, we will add the tens place. Just like before, you add the tens place of the first number to the tens place of the second number. If the result is a two-digit number, you write down the ones digit and carry over the tens digit to the hundreds place. Also consider the carry from the ones digit, add with it
For example: 738 + 526 = 1264
In the above example, we have 3 + 2 + 1(carry) = 6, so we write down 6.
Finally, we add the hundreds place. For example: 738 + 526 = 1264
In the above example, we have 7 + 5 = 12, so we write down 12.
When adding three-digit numbers, it’s important to remember to carry over any extra tens or ones digits to the next column. This is called “carrying.”
When you have finish with this process, you will have the final sum of the numbers.
Try practice with different three digit numbers, it will help to better understand this concept. And remember, practice makes perfect!
So for example let’s take: 314+672 = 986
First we add 4 + 2 = 6, so we write down 6. Then we add 1 + 7 + 3 = 11, so we write down 1 and carry over 1 to the hundreds place Then we add 3 + 6 + 1 = 10, so we write down 0 and write 1 above the hundreds place of the first number, so our final sum is 1010
It is important to always check the final sum after adding large number, to make sure that there is no mistake.
